Marathon Packing List // What I Packed for the NYC Marathon

Here’s everything I packed to run the NYC Marathon!

My husband and I traveled from Austin to NYC to run our first marathon major. He got in via lottery and I raised money to run with a charity. This year, there were over 50,000 runners from around the globe and it was an absolutely incredible day! I cannot recommend the New York City Marathon enough and feel so grateful to have been able to run it.

If you’re looking for a recap of the race and weekend, you can watch the video above! But this blog post will review all the running-related items I packed for the New York City Marathon.

WHAT I PACKED FOR MY RACE DAY OUTFIT

Shirt: the weather started in the low 50s and finished mid-60s. In hindsight, I could’ve gone with a short sleeve top, but since we waited around so much at the beginning, I am glad I had long sleeves. I always wear this style of shirt for marathons and it has never steered me wrong!

Shorts: I did a lot of my long runs in this style of short and have never had any chafing issues in them. The style is super flattering, too! Plus, they’re affordable — I’ve got nothing bad to say about these!

Shoes: This was my first time ever training in On’s and I absolutely loved them! I’m eager to try some of their other styles, but thought this pair was perfect for all the training I did. I’ve never worn specific “race day” shoes, but rather wear the shoes I did all my long runs in.

Hat: I recently discovered the brand Skida and love their fun hats. They’re not as breathable as some other running hats I own, but since the weather was cooler, I didn’t mind!

RUNNING ACCESSORIES

Headphones: You all know I have been a Shokz lover for years now. Dom and I both ran in the Shokz OpenRun headphones – honestly, neither of us listened to our music much…if you ever wanted to try running a race without music, this one would be it!

SPI Belt: I’ve been using my SPI Belt to hold my gels and my phone while running for years now. You can use code RUNNINGBFF for 20% off 🙂 I use the double pouch for races because it can hold more and use the single while doing training runs.

Portable charger: I brought a portable charger during my ultramarathons, but had never brought one for a marathon until this one. Because there was so much waiting involved, I knew I would need one regardless of how little I planned to be on my phone beforehand. I’m glad I had it because my phone was at 15% by the time I hit mile 20!

Anti-chafe rub: I will not run any sort of long run without this stuff! I put it absolutely everywhere and it work wonders.

COROS Pace 2: I love this watch because it has such a great battery life. I brought it with a charge of about 75% and never charged it while in NYC; it was only down to about 50% by the time we left!

I hope this is helpful as you’re packing for your marathon!
