It’s been a minute since I’ve given a running update post-injury and I want to share what I am currently working on!
Summer of 2023, I rolled my ankle and ended up with a grade 3 ankle sprain that had me out for almost four months. Since then, I feel like my running has been a bit chaotic. I jumped into training for the NYC Marathon after that injury, taking my runs really easy out of fear of rolling my ankle again. After that, I briefly trained for a 100k before realizing the timing wasn’t right; instead, I took a break from running. I was very casually running low mileage until I got invited to run the Boston Marathon with Adidas — an incredible opportunity I am so grateful for. The invite didn’t allow for a full marathon training schedule, so I ended up ramping up my mileage quickly in order to prepare and that landed me with Plantar Fasciitis.
I dealt with PF all spring and after several months, I finally got to a point where I could start running again! So, here we are now, I’ve had some slight flair-ups since getting back to it, but overall, I am in a much better place and am so eager to really get back to it. I’ve been documenting my return to running over on Youtube if you’re interested in seeing more.
Where does all of this leave me with my running goals? Let’s get into it!
1. Build back my mileage in a healthy way
I love running and have really missed going out on longer runs. I am so looking forward to steadily building my mileage in a way that doesn’t compromise my health + safety as a runner. I am not usually injury-prone, but this past year has been a rough one in terms of injuries! Truly, my main goal is to stay uninjured and healthy.
2. Prioritize strength training
While I’ve been running shorter distances, I’ve been really committing myself to getting in the gym 3-4 times a week. I’m only in there for about 20-30 minutes per sessions, but that is a commitment that is sustainable for me, so I’m sticking with it! Strength training can feel intimidating, but I feel soooo good after getting a session done!
3. Run a 100-miler
Eyes on the prize currently and that prize is my first 100 miler! I am STOKED. The training for the 50-mile race I ran back in March 2023 was such a commitment, but I genuinely loved it. I cannot wait to push myself, challenge myself and prove to myself that I can do it!
Those are my main goals right now. I can’t wait to see where this next season of running takes me!
